The fires, which spread rapidly during Thursday’s extreme heat, destroyed 19 properties across five streets and severely damaged another 18, leaving many families facing the difficult task of rebuilding their lives\.

Some residents have now been allowed beyond the emergency cordon to inspect their properties\. While several homes were left untouched, others were reduced to little more than shells\.

## Families Begin Returning

Dudley Council said 96 evacuated homes had escaped damage, allowing 85 families to return\. A further 13 households whose properties were damaged have also been permitted to go back\.

Residents from areas including Brunswick Gate, Landsgate, Ounty John Lane, Quarry Park Road and Racecourse Lane were given information about the condition of their homes and whether they could safely return\.

For some families, returning home has brought relief\. For others, it has revealed the full scale of what they have lost\.

## Firefighters Describe Extreme Conditions

One firefighter described the situation as the most severe he had experienced during more than two decades of service\.

He said crews had been working almost continuously as the fires spread quickly through dry areas, with firefighters hoping for rain to help contain the flames\.

The Stourbridge blaze was one of several major fires reported across England and Wales during a period of exceptionally hot weather\.

The National Fire Chiefs Council said emergency services had faced significant pressure, with 11 major fires recorded over a 48\-hour period and dozens of new wildfires reported\.

## Residents Count Their Losses

Among those evacuated was the Abdullah family, who had been preparing to celebrate 18\-year\-old Dominic’s A\-level results when they were forced to flee\.

Their home survived the fire, but Dominic said watching neighbouring properties burn had been deeply distressing\.

The family said they were grateful to firefighters and fortunate that their own property was not destroyed\.

Other residents have returned to homes without electricity, gas or water\. Spoiled food has also had to be cleared from properties affected by the evacuation\.

Dudley Council has sent teams into the area to help residents remove damaged belongings and begin the recovery process\.

## Community Support Grows

Financial support for affected families has also been growing\.

A Dudley Council fundraiser established to help residents rebuild their lives has raised more than £31,000, while another campaign organised by the Heart of England Community Foundation has passed £50,000\.

Local support centres are providing essentials including food, clothing, pet supplies and phone chargers\. Counselling is also being offered to adults and children affected by the fires\.

Four fire engines remain in Stourbridge, with crews monitoring the area and checking for hotspots that could reignite\.

## Fires Reported Elsewhere

The Stourbridge fire was part of a wider series of incidents across the region\.

In Stoke\-on\-Trent, four homes were completely destroyed after a fire began in a park in Sandyford, while another 13 properties suffered structural, roof or window damage\.

Resident Marie Leese said she lost her garden and a summer house built by her late husband\.

Police have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of arson in connection with the Stoke\-on\-Trent fire\.

Fires also caused extensive damage in Warstock and Kings Norton in Birmingham\. A 55\-year\-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the Kings Norton incident\.

The cause of the Stourbridge fire remains under investigation.
